1.
Overall impression of the photographs you saw

The gallery was very peaceful yet very impressive. I was very much taken by the photos as they displayed the traditional life in the UAE culture. For a moment you believe the images are very normal and that there is nothing special about them. But with further look into the picture you tend to get the whole idea about the picture. The photos exhibited are not what people say “WOW” but they have a meaning and they are direct to the point, a point of view that the photographer is trying to let the viewer realize. For example, the vanishing tradition of the UAE culture, the innovation overtaking UAE and the beauty of the UAE’s past and present.

2.
The aesthetic nature of the photographs in the exhibition

Can’t say much about the photo’s exhibited. Although they reflect a very wise meaning they tend to be lacking creativity and the “grab the attention” sort of view. The photo’s qualities are beyond excellent yet the absence of excellent photo techniques makes the photo appear very normal and not professional. However, although many photos didn’t grab my interest only one or two that I stood in front and admired their excellence from the colors, technique, posture and quality.  At last there was one piece that I would like to call “master piece” of the exhibition. Although the photo was not a reflection of the UAE but rather a very irrelevant to the whole gallery theme it was very amusing. The picture is attached to this report. I believe it speaks for itself and shows a very dramatic life of someone no one knows who but everyone can feel them just by the looking at the photo.

3.
What affected/moved you the most about the photographs?

I believe what affected me the most was that I related to the photos really quickly as they speak about my tradition and my culture. The contradiction between the traditional views of the UAE and the modern life of the UAE made affected me the most. Mostly because I enjoy the development and the modernity yet I can’t imagine those valuable traditions of the UAE culture being vanished as they mean a lot not only to me but to most of the UAE citizens and residents. Out tradition is what defines us as Emaraties and it is something no one is willing to give up. But, at the same time as Emaraties we like to be developed and flourish as a country and as citizens.

Write at least THREE things you learned about photography through this exhibition.

1.      Reflecting the reality of a culture and their tradition through images is very amusing especially to the person living in that culture.

2.      When the absences of quality and photo techniques are not available in a photo the idea itself is not enough to make the viewer enjoy looking to the photos. A photo must be a combination of all the factors that make a photo exquisitely beautiful. Quality, Color, Idea, techniques, posture, lightings and many more are what make a photo something anyone would admire.

3.      All the photos in the gallery lacked the human element. Never did I think that the absenteeism of the human element would make the photos less expressional.  Therefore, I believe that if I learned something significant is the importance of human elements in the photos as they give a better reflection and stamps an eternal impression.

1.
Overall impression of the photographs

Personally, I enjoyed my visit to Gulf Photo Plus as it was not limited to one main theme. The exhibit included various photos by many different photographers. In each of the photos there is something special to be viewed. Some of the photos were normal but many were exquisite and breathtaking. I can still recall one of the images from the gallery which was so peaceful, colorful, professional and above all meaningful.

I think what made me prefer Gulf Photo Plus is the range of photo’s available from colored images to black and white photos. The various images by different photographers allowed me to be inspired every time I look into a photo. Some of the photographers showcased phenomenal images, as if the images were out of this world, the beauty of the photos are undescribale. Other photos made me associate with my inner feeling, and immediately connected with some of the images and the photographer.

2.
Description the aesthetic nature of the photographs in the exhibition

The beauty of the pictures I saw and favored impacted me because of the way they were taken. None of the pictures were staged they were all spontaneous and that gave the true impression about the scene. Not only that but the quality, colors and the way each photo is introduced to the viewer is what gives each photo its aesthetic appeal of glamorous and phenomenal overlook. Although the photo’s reflected moments from reality the photos were so beautiful as if they were painted by an artist.

The aesthetic nature of the photos can’t be described as there were many photos each single photo is by a different photographer. Every photographer had his\her own techniques. Yet it is possible to say that each photographer showed their personal techniques excellently in one photo. Some of the images had depth of field, other contained obvious manipulation whilst some showcased focus on details. At the end every photo had some kind of unique beauty that represents its photographer.

One of my most favorite photos was Fakur Al- Salam… the colors of the images, the beautiful nature, the peacefulness of the place, the depth of field, the focus of details all aspects were in one image. One way to describe the image is “unlimited beauty”

3.
What affected/moved me the most about the photographs

What I was really moved by was how the Photo’s made me feel. They reflected the reality far away from my eyes and it made me feel the sadness of the people in the photo, the joy of the people. Even the photos of the buildings, I felt there beauty, there significant existence and their spectacular structure.

Moreover, I was very affected by how one gallery showcasing various images by many different photographers using many similar and dissimilar photo techniques can be so overwhelming. When you walk around the gallery you tend to be confused at first since there are so many images hanged on the wall. But for a gallery such Gulf Photo Plus you need not to rush during your visit. Look at each picture and admire it. Then look at the picture next to it and feel the difference of the techniques. Then look at the image behind you and explore how each photographer has a different point of view of what is beauty and what appeals to them as a reflection of a reality. You will be amazed by how photographers view this world and how they deliver the meaning of beauty in their photos

Write at least THREE things you learned about photography through this exhibition.

1.      Photo’s that are spontaneous give a true reflection of reality. It makes the viewer feel something just by looking. They say a photo speaks a thousand words and those photos’ had no description yet just by viewing the photo you can understand the whole situation and get that feeling of connection to the image.

2.      The quality of the photos is as important as the meaning and the content of the photo itself. The better and more enhanced the quality the more the viewer’s enjoy glazing at the photo. Therefore, to enhance the quality of the image the aesthetic nature of the photos should include not one but more of aspects that create an excellent photo. From depth of field to colors and lightning to the subject of the photo being clearly modified.

3.  The variation of photos hanged all in one gallery allows us as visitors to be bedazzled by the beauty of variation. I personally, enjoyed viewing the different themes and the type of photos with each representing its photographer way of showcasing an image that contain all the meaning of beauty in addition to his\her personal techniques

1.
Overall impression of the photographs

The idea of displaying only portraits of people from various countries around the world in one gallery was beyond impressive. This was one of my most favorite gallery visits. The faces of people being displayed makes you look deeply into the faces of those people and look at the differences between people from India, Canada, Dubai, Cuba and Anzania. The whole experience was extremely unique.

To look at a picture of a person that you don’t know where he\she is from, which country does he\she belong to, a person who is from a country you might never visited and immediately try and figure out where this person from by exploring his\her the facial structure, color and clothing is spectacular and it defiantly grabbed my attention and interest.

Not only the idea but the way each portrait is unique by its beauty and quality is magical. The photographer showed every photograph with minimal background colors and objects so that viewers will focus on the subject of the photo in this case the person being photo’d more than the background. The subjects were showcased with huge detail and with astonishing photograph techniques.

2.
Description of the aesthetic nature of the photographs in the exhibition

The nature of the photos displayed was very unique and inspiring. Each portrait had its exclusive sense of beauty. Aesthetics, in the world of art and photography, refers to the principles of the nature and appreciation of beauty. Judging beauty and other aesthetic qualities of photographs is a highly subjective task. Hence, there is no unanimously agreed standard for measuring aesthetic value.

However, the aesthetic nature of photographs exhibited in the Identity gallery was all about focus, color and subject.  The focus on details in each of the photos was very fascinating. As you can see the tiniest details of each portrait. A photo of an Indian worker showed the wrinkles and the redness in his eyes.

For some, such a detail can be discarded but for others like me this detail was extremely significant as it showed the feelings of sadness and sorrow although the man was smiling to the camera.

The subject and the colors of the photos were direct. All the focus was on the person being portrayed and the colors of the background were minimal. The subject and colors of each photo attempted arouse the emotions in people by focusing on the subject of the photos with minimal background objects and colors.

In short, the portraits were defiantly a huge success. The photographer took every aspect of an excellent photo into consideration. The colors, the focus, the details, the subject and the idea. And most importantly, the images were meaningful and reflected the image of a culture and a tradition.

3.
What affected/moved me the most about the photographs

Personally, the photos were very beautiful in the sense that they kind of spoken to me. The details and the focus of the photos were very accurate that I see the joy, the sadness, the carelessness of the people portrayed. The photos were not portraits of people from one country, region or continent. They were from various countries around the world and from different continents. This variety and mixture have grabbed my attention as I looked at the difference between the facial structure, the status and the emotions hidden in every portrait.

My most favorite picture was of an old man from Cuba smoking a cigarette at the first glance you will think he is enjoying the photo-shoot. But when you stare into the redness of his eyes and the details of his face you will defiantly find an old man full of sorrows. And this is what moved me a lot, the ability of the photographer to deliver you not only a picture but a feeling associated with unrevealed story.

4.
THREE things I learned about photography through this exhibition

1.     People are a reflection of a culture, emotions and beauty. Therefore, Humans are considered an important element when taking pictures. Moreover, portraits speak a thousand words, as the eyes, the smile, and the skin says a lot about a human culture, emotional status and perhaps class level than any other type of photographs.

2.      Delivering a meaningful story through portraits to the viewers is a very hard thing. Almost impossible to achieve but with the right moment and the right technique you will most defiantly deliver a story to the audience and maybe touch their souls if the photo was taken spontaneously.

3.      The subject, the idea, the focus and the colors of the photo plays a huge role in allowing the viewer’s associate with the photos and understand the emotions attached in each portrait. If all the aspects are taken into consideration the photos will deliver a meaningful statement to the viewer from the first glance.
